In a renewed effort to elevate indigenous textiles on the global stage, Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, recently hosted a strategic meeting with Her Majesty Queen Ronke Ademiluyi-Ogunwusi, founder of Africa Fashion Week London and Nigeria, and the British Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr. Jonny Baxter.
The engagement focused on harnessing the cultural and economic potential of Adire, the iconic Yoruba textile, as a symbol of Nigeria’s heritage and a promising export commodity.

Commissioner Benson-Awoyinka reaffirmed Lagos State’s unwavering support for creative platforms that empower local designers, preserve cultural identity, and contribute to the state’s economic growth.
She emphasized the importance of strategic partnerships in amplifying African narratives and cementing Lagos’ status as the epicenter of fashion and creativity on the continent.
“As the fashion and creative capital of Nigeria, Lagos remains a catalyst for innovation, style, and enterprise. We are proud to support initiatives that promote our cultural assets and inspire the next generation of creatives,” she said.
Describing the meeting as a significant step toward global recognition of Adire and African fashion, the Commissioner underscored the government’s commitment to cultural preservation and the expansion of the creative industry.
