Nigerian comedian and actor Ayo Makun (AY) has warned Nigerians to avoid the trap of comparing themselves to others on social media, clarifying that much of what people admire online is staged and far from reality.
Eko Hot Blog reports that comedian AY shared a video on his Instagram page on Thursday, observing that social media creates false impressions of success through displays of wealth and luxury, which often mislead people into believing others live perfect lives.

The comedian revealed that many influencers and content creators fake their lifestyles to impress their followers. According to him, some borrow clothes, pose in hotel lobbies, or use other people’s cars just to appear rich and successful.
AY compared social media to a movie set where everything is scripted and staged for the camera. He urged his fans to focus on self-development and live genuinely rather than chase illusions of wealth.

“Many of the celebrities you envy are living on borrowed wigs, borrowed outfits, and borrowed lifestyles,” he said. “Some take pictures in hotel lobbies and call them their homes, while others pose with cars that are not theirs.”
He encouraged Nigerians to grow at their own pace, stay true to themselves, and find happiness in simplicity instead of comparison.
