Senate President Godswill Akpabio has accused opposition politicians of fueling insecurity in Nigeria out of envy over the achievements of President Bola Tinubu.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that he made the remarks on Tuesday at the commissioning of the new headquarters of the Nigeria Revenue Service, where he commended Tinubu’s leadership and reform agenda.

Akpabio alleged that some opposition figures were behind recent bombings, claiming they were intended to divert attention from governance.

According to him, the spike in insecurity is linked to the approaching elections, with political actors attempting to undermine the administration and create panic among citizens. He suggested that such incidents would subside once the elections are concluded.
Akpabio argued that the President’s performance has weakened the opposition’s ability to compete effectively, pushing some individuals toward extreme measures.
He added that many politicians are defecting to the All Progressives Congress due to what he described as Tinubu’s strong governance and support for states.
He also criticized opposition parties, saying they have struggled with internal stability and have failed to organize themselves effectively.
Defending the administration’s economic policies, Akpabio highlighted the removal of fuel subsidy as a critical step that prevented the country from facing financial collapse.

He noted that subsidy payments and debt servicing had previously consumed the bulk of national revenue, leaving little for infrastructure development.
He pointed to visible improvements in the Federal Capital Territory, including the revival of long-abandoned road and bridge projects, as evidence of progress under Tinubu’s leadership.
Akpabio also praised the appointment of Nyesom Wike as Minister of the FCT, describing it as a demonstration of inclusiveness by bringing in a figure from outside the ruling party.
