According to the monarch, the Open Week was designed to showcase the House’s legislative achievements over the past three years and to open its processes to public scrutiny.

He said the highlight for him was a National Security Roundtable, which brought together stakeholders to deliberate on the country’s security challenges, legislative support for security agencies, and the proposed State Police Bill.
The Bill, an amendment to the 1999 Constitution, seeks to establish state-controlled police structures across Nigeria’s 36 states, a proposal that has gained traction following renewed calls for decentralised policing.
Reflecting on his participation, Oba Ogunsanwo described the roundtable as a critical platform for engaging lawmakers on security and reform.

The three-day event drew traditional rulers, government officials and stakeholders from across the country, and formed part of activities marking the third anniversary of the 10th Assembly, which was inaugurated in June 2023.
Speaker Abbas has said the exercise reflects the House’s commitment to accountability, noting that Open Week was conceived as “an act of accountability” rather than self-congratulation.
The State Police Bill remains a subject of ongoing legislative debate, with the House recently opting to prioritise a revised Executive Bill over its earlier version.
