EKO HOT BLOG reports that Davies sustained the injury just 12 minutes into Canada’s 2-1 victory over the United States in the Concacaf Nations League third-place play-off. While Canada Soccer initially cleared him to travel, further medical evaluations in Munich revealed the severity of the injury, ruling him out for at least six months.
During a press conference, Bayern’s sporting director, Christoph Freund, questioned the decision to allow Davies to fly back to Germany without a thorough medical examination. He stressed the importance of adhering to strict medical protocols, particularly in international competitions.
Bayern’s CEO, Jan-Christian Dreesen, also voiced concerns, demanding clarification on the circumstances surrounding Davies’ situation. He emphasized the responsibility of national teams in safeguarding players, especially considering Davies’ key role and Canada’s preparations for the 2026 World Cup.
Dreesen reiterated that while Davies, who recently signed a five-year contract with Bayern, remains committed to leading his team, his long-term health must be prioritized. He warned against unnecessary risks with key athletes ahead of major tournaments.
