The Anambra State Government has shut down the Nnewi Auto Spare Parts Market at Nkwo for one week over traders’ refusal to comply with the directive suspending the Monday sit-at-home
Eko Hot Blog gathered that the decision was announced on Monday during a visit to the market by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Trade and Markets, Chief Evarist Uba.

He was joined by the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor; the Special Adviser on Security, AVM Ben Chiobi (retd); and the Chairman of Nnewi Local Government Area, Echezona Anazodo.

Delivering the government’s position on behalf of Governor Chukwuma Soludo, Uba said the market would remain closed for one week, warning that a longer shutdown could follow if traders continue to ignore the directive when it reopens next Monday.
According to officials, the action became necessary after many shop owners kept their businesses locked despite repeated assurances from the state government about improved security and calls to resume normal Monday activities.
Uba advised both traders and customers to stay away from the market during the closure period to avoid any confrontation with security agencies enforcing the order.

In a statement, the government announced that the New Auto Spare Parts Association Market, Nkwo Nnewi, would cease operations from midnight on Monday, February 23, 2026, and is scheduled to reopen on Monday, March 2, 2026.
Authorities attributed the move to what they described as poor compliance with the governor’s directive ending the sit-at-home practice.
The state government noted that regular business activities have largely resumed across Anambra on Mondays since a similar order was issued in late January.
Earlier, the Onitsha Main Market was also temporarily closed after traders allegedly failed to comply with the directive.
