EKO HOT BLOG reports that Achi and his wife, Sarah, were kidnapped on October 28 from their residence in the Nissi community, Chikun Local Government Area, close to the Kaduna Refinery. The attackers reportedly invaded the area at night and whisked the couple away alongside other captives.
Family members earlier received photographs from the abductors confirming that the priest and his wife were alive. The images showed them in distress, with visible signs of starvation. Several other captives were also seen in chains, appearing severely malnourished.
A source familiar with the situation confirmed on Wednesday that Achi, who served as Priest in Charge of the Ebenezer Anglican Church, Ungwan Maijero, died after his health deteriorated while in captivity. The abductors had demanded a ransom of six hundred million naira before his reported death.
Meanwhile, insecurity continues to escalate across parts of Kaduna. In a separate incident, two police officers were killed during an attack on the Divisional Police Headquarters in Zonkwa, the administrative centre of Zangon Kataf Local Government Area. The gunmen reportedly opened fire on the station, killing the officers inside the facility.
Residents say the rise in violent attacks has heightened fear across communities, with appeals to security agencies for stronger operations and improved protection of vulnerable areas.

Authorities are yet to issue a formal statement on the death of the priest or provide an update on efforts to rescue the remaining captives.
