Anointing Doesn’t Diminish Romance – Pastor Adeboye Advises Married Couples
Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, has opened up about the significance of maintaining romance in marriage, even for those deeply involved in spiritual duties.
In a heartfelt message, Adeboye revealed that he and his wife, Foluke, still nurture their love by using pet names when they are alone, emphasising that “anointing does not diminish romance.”
Speaking to married couples, especially pastors, Adeboye urged them to prioritize intimacy and romance, ensuring that their marriages remain joyful and vibrant. “Don’t let romance die,” he counseled.

In a Friday post on his official Facebook page, the pastor shared personal insights, noting that he has a special pet name for his wife when they are alone, highlighting that being anointed or spiritually focused should not take away from the romance in a marriage.
He explained that some pastors shy away from romantic activities, fearing it could detract from their spiritual focus, but Adeboye stressed that being spiritually anointed should not replace the need for romance. He cited the Bible as an example, specifically referring to Isaac’s playful interaction with Rebekah in Genesis 26:8, as a model for balancing spiritual life with marital intimacy.
“Some pastors hardly go on dates with their spouses because they consider such activities a distraction from their focus on spiritual matters,” Adeboye said.
He advised couples to rekindle their connection by spending quality time together, just as they did in the early days of their relationship. “Once in a while, compose a poem for your spouse. Have a pet name that you call each other behind closed doors,” he encouraged.

Adeboye also shared a personal detail about his relationship with his wife, saying, “Up until today, there is a pet name my wife calls me when we are alone… When we are alone, we are lovers, not Daddy G.O. and Mummy G.O.”
The pastor emphasized that being a Christian does not eliminate the need for romance in marriage, urging couples not to let life’s responsibilities take away the joy and fun in their relationships. He encouraged them to write notes, use pet names, and surprise each other to keep the romance alive.
“Your spouse is still the same person you were very fond of; don’t let the cares of life distract you from the gems in your spouse,” he concluded.
