The Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Obafemi Hamzat, has been cleared by the All Progressives Congress Governorship Screening Committee to contest in the party’s governorship primary ahead of the 2027 election.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Hamzat appeared before the screening committee in Abuja during the weekend and was subsequently approved to participate in the primary election.
Speaking with journalists after the screening exercise, the deputy governor described the process as thorough, transparent, and in line with the democratic values of the APC.
According to him, the screening exercise was aimed at verifying the credentials, records, and experiences submitted by aspirants seeking to emerge as the party’s governorship candidate.
“The screening was designed to verify the credentials, records, and experiences submitted by aspirants seeking to fly the APC flag. The essence of the screening is to ensure that everything submitted is accurate and verifiable,” Hamzat said.
“We submitted all required documents and the committee asked questions based on the information provided. It is basically to confirm that what you wrote is truly reflective of your experience and service.”
Hamzat stated that members of the committee thoroughly reviewed all documents submitted and sought clarifications on various aspects of his public service and professional background.
He added that the panel asked questions relating to the different roles he had played in government over the years.
The deputy governor also expressed confidence in the APC primary process and reaffirmed his commitment to the continued growth and development of Lagos State.
“I am very comfortable with my party and confident in the democratic process. Ultimately, the decision rests with party members and the people. Our responsibility is to continue offering our best in service to the state and the country,” he said.

Hamzat further stressed that Lagos State must continue to serve as a model for innovation, governance, and development in Nigeria.
He added that leadership must remain focused on delivering meaningful impact and improved living conditions for citizens.
