Troops of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, in collaboration with Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke, have arrested three men for allegedly setting a house ablaze in Karim Town, located in Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the early Tuesday attack, according to the Army, was a deliberate attempt to heighten already fragile tensions in the community.

The suspects were identified as Bitrus Ishaya and Mamman Ibrahim, both from Wudumpi, and Emmanuel Adi. Soldiers apprehended them at the scene shortly after the house belonging to a resident of Wurkun extraction went up in flames.
In a statement signed by Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, initial checks revealed that Bitrus and Mamman falsely claimed to be members of the Taraba Marshal. “Preliminary investigations revealed that the claims by Bitrus and Mamman to be members of the Taraba Marshal were false, as both men failed to provide any form of official identification,” the Army stated.
The third suspect, Emmanuel Adi, who said he was a vigilante member, was also detained after officials flagged his account as inconsistent and suspicious.

The military noted that the arson attack may have been orchestrated to exploit and escalate the already delicate security situation in Karim Lamido. It added that the swift intervention of troops prevented what could have spiralled into a broader communal crisis.
All three suspects remain in custody as investigations continue to confirm their identities and uncover possible ties to criminal groups operating under the cover of local security outfits.
The Commander of the 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended troops for their prompt action, warning that the Army would not tolerate attempts to destabilise communities. “Anyone attempting to ignite violence, destabilise communities, or fuel communal tensions will be decisively dealt with in accordance with the law,” he said.
He urged residents to remain calm and support ongoing peace efforts by cooperating with security agencies and reporting suspicious activities.
