Former President Muhammadu Buhari passed away on July 13, 2025, at the age of 82 following a prolonged illness at a medical clinic in London, United Kingdom.
His remains were subsequently repatriated to Nigeria and interred in his ancestral hometown of Daura, Katsina State, amid national mourning and high-level state rites.
Buhari served as the democratically elected leader of the Federal Republic of Nigeria from May 29, 2015, to May 29, 2023.
His political ascent in 2015 marked a historic turning point in the nation’s democratic journey, as he became the first opposition candidate to successfully defeat an incumbent president at the polls.
He subsequently secured a second term in office during the 2019 general elections before successfully handing over executive power in May 2023.
