In his address, Governor Sanwo-Olu acknowledged President Bola Tinubu for his support in acquiring the trains.
He said, “About a year and a half ago, Mr President, in his deep understanding of what sub-national governments are doing under his Renewed Hope Agenda, recognised our efforts.
“While we have witnessed the removal of subsidies and the introduction of Compressed Natural Gas buses, the President also deemed it fit to support us financially in delivering these new coaches.
“Now, we can see that his agenda is yielding positive results for Lagos. We want to sincerely thank the President and everyone who has been part of this journey.
“Before the end of the year, we will also see more new coaches on the Red Line, which are larger than those on the Blue Line. This is a directive from the President, and we have fulfilled it, so we owe him our gratitude.”
Sanwo-Olu noted “We are doubling our current passenger capacity on the Blue Line. This will directly improve the commute for thousands of Lagosians, reducing wait times, speeding up journeys, and making the system more reliable overall. Our goal is to have trains arriving every 10 minutes.”
The event was graced by key officials of his cabinet including the Commissioner for Transportation, Seun Osiyemi; Commissioner for Information, Gbenga Omotoso; Commissioner for Finance, Yomi Oluyomi; and Commissioner for Energy, Biodun Ogunleye, as well as the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Sola Giwa.
Also present was the Managing Director, Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority, Abimbola Akinajo.
