According to Adetayo Akitoye Asagba, Assistant Director of Public Affairs at the Lagos State Primary Health Care Board (LSPHCB), the integrated campaign aligns with both national and global immunisation goals and is designed to protect children and adolescents from vaccine-preventable diseases.
Measles remains one of the top causes of vaccine-preventable childhood illness, while rubella infection during pregnancy can lead to congenital rubella syndrome. This condition can cause serious issues such as heart defects, cataracts, hearing problems, and developmental delays in infants.
Dr. Ibrahim Akinwunmi Mustafa, Permanent Secretary of LSPHCB, emphasised the importance of routine immunisation, noting that vaccines prevent diseases like polio, tuberculosis, whooping cough, diphtheria, and even cervical cancer. He reassured residents that all vaccines provided during the campaign are safe, effective, and completely free.

“This campaign is a major step in protecting our children and teens from preventable illnesses,” Dr. Mustafa said. “We are determined to reach every eligible child and adolescent, regardless of where they live or their family’s economic background. Immunisation helps reduce child sickness and death, keeps kids in school, and supports long-term social and economic growth.”
He called on parents, guardians, community and religious leaders, and schools to actively support the campaign by ensuring that all eligible children and adolescents receive their vaccines.
The Lagos State immunisation drive will be supported by key development partners, including the Federal Ministry of Health, the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, and other health partners.
