Her legacy dates back to 1955 when, as a young bride married to then-Non-Commissioned Officer Anthony Ochefu, she sought a means to keep herself engaged and support her family.
Living in the Abakpa Army Barracks in Enugu, she started a small business selling soft drinks and kunu (a local grain drink) to soldiers.
Her initiative quickly gained popularity, and military authorities later formalized her idea into what is now known as Mammy Market—an essential marketplace within barracks where soldiers and their families can purchase food, drinks, and essential goods.
