BREAKING: Lagos Speaker Meranda Accuses Obasa of Breaking Into Her Office

- Lagos Speaker Mojisola Meranda accuses predecessor Mudashiru Obasa of breaking into her office.
- Obasa insists he remains the legitimate Speaker and challenges his removal in court.
- Meranda condemns Obasa’s forceful entry, calling it “a big one.”
The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mojisola Meranda, has condemned the actions of her predecessor, Mudashiru Obasa, who stormed the Assembly complex on Thursday, insisting that he remains the legitimate Speaker.
Addressing journalists on Friday at the Lagos State High Court, where Obasa had filed an application challenging his removal, Meranda criticized his forceful actions and described his conduct as inappropriate.
Speaking on the incident, Meranda acknowledged that Obasa, as a sitting lawmaker, has the right to visit the Assembly but described his forceful entry into her office as unacceptable, EKO HOT BLOG reports.
“I think he’s still a member of the House of Assembly, so he has every right to come, but invasion and breaking into my office—that is really a big one,” she said.
Meranda also confirmed that her security detail had been significantly reduced following the incident.
“Well, I have, I think, three or four policemen, whereas my normal convoy consists of 12 policemen, four DSS operatives, and two anti-B personnel. As of this morning, I don’t have that,” she revealed.
On Obasa’s claim of holding a plenary session on Thursday, Meranda dismissed it as a “mockery of legislative processes,” stating that the gathering lacked the required quorum.
“I think to me, that was just a show of shame because, in our job, we have numbers that form a quorum. So if you are sitting with three or four members, you are only doing theatre,” she stated.
The ongoing leadership dispute continues to raise tensions within the Lagos State House of Assembly, as legal battles and political maneuvers unfold.
