A former Special Assistant on Digital Communications to Muhammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmad, has disclosed that the late president’s son, Yusuf Buhari, has declared his intention to contest a seat in the House of Representatives in 2027.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that in a letter dated April 3, Yusuf Buhari informed stakeholders of his decision to seek election to represent the Sandamu Daura Mai’Adua Federal Constituency under the platform of the All Progressives Congress.

“I am extremely delighted to inform you of my intention to contest for this position, as I aim to contribute to good leadership and bring development to our people,” the letter read.
Confirming the development in a post on his 𝕏 page, Ahmad stated that the decision followed extensive consultations with key stakeholders.
“Following wide consultations, Yusuf Buhari, the son of our late boss, President Muhammadu Buhari, has informed stakeholders of his intention to contest for the House of Representatives seat for the Sandamu Daura Mai’Adua constituency under the All Progressives Congress,” he wrote.
Yusuf Buhari has largely stayed out of public political engagement since his father left office, making this his most significant political move to date.
Meanwhile, stakeholders of the APC in Sandamu Local Government Area of Katsina State have endorsed him as their preferred candidate for the constituency.
The endorsement was announced during a high level meeting held at the Sandamu Local Government Secretariat, attended by elected officials and political appointees across the constituency.
The council chairman, Usman Na Lado, said the decision reflected a collective resolution aimed at strengthening the party’s chances in the 2027 elections.
He noted that Yusuf Buhari was selected based on his perceived capacity and acceptance among party stakeholders.
Na Lado also stated that the meeting reaffirmed support for Bola Tinubu and Dikko Umar Radda as the APC’s candidates for the presidency and governorship, respectively, in the 2027 elections.
He added that stakeholders also endorsed the Speaker of the Katsina State House of Assembly, Nasiru Yahaya Daura, for the Daura Senatorial seat, describing the move as part of early preparations for the polls. He urged party loyalists to intensify grassroots mobilisation.

However, sources within the party told Daily Trust that Yusuf Buhari’s endorsement followed a directive from the state governor, describing him as the preferred candidate of the administration.
