Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, said the initiative was driven by the need for reliable and sustainable electricity supply.
“Solar is the way to go. We have spent money on diesel without getting value for it, but with solar, all shall be well,” he said.
Omotoso explained that the state previously spent between ₦600 million and ₦800 million monthly to power streetlights with generators, a situation he described as unsustainable.
He noted that the shift to solar energy represents a major transformation toward a cleaner, safer, and more efficient power system.

Also present at the unveiling were the Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Abiodun Ogunleye, and the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Strategy, Lanre Bajulaiye.
In his remarks, the General Manager of Radio Lagos/Eko FM, Jide Lawal, said the solar installation marks a new era of energy independence and uninterrupted broadcasting.
He noted that the stations had long struggled with power supply challenges but expressed optimism that the new system would enhance efficiency and service delivery.
Lawal described the project as a significant step toward reducing operational costs and carbon footprint while ensuring consistent delivery of information and entertainment to listeners.
He also commended Babajide Sanwo Olu for supporting the initiative, noting that the project reflects the administration’s commitment to innovation and sustainable development.
