EKO HOT BLOG reports that according to reports first published by The Athletic, chief executive Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox are convinced Carrick is the ideal candidate and are expected to formally present their recommendation to Ratcliffe this week. Should approval be granted, talks over a permanent appointment are expected to begin immediately.
Carrick’s performances in charge have significantly strengthened his position. Since taking over on January 13, he has won 10 of his 15 matches, suffering only two defeats. Under his leadership, United climbed from seventh to third place in the Premier League and secured a return to Europe’s elite club competition.
The former United midfielder also oversaw a strong run of league form, with the club earning 33 Premier League points during his tenure, the highest tally recorded by any top-flight side within the same period.
His spell in charge began with statement victories over title rivals Manchester City and Arsenal as part of a four-match winning streak. Although a seven-game unbeaten run eventually came to an end in March, crucial wins against Aston Villa, Chelsea and Liverpool helped confirm Champions League qualification.
United had endured a difficult campaign before Amorim’s departure in January following reported disagreements with club executives over tactical decisions and inconsistent results. Carrick, who previously served as interim manager after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s exit in 2021, has since restored stability at Old Trafford and reportedly impressed senior officials with his approach to youth development and long-term planning.
Several first-team players are also believed to have privately backed his appointment as permanent manager.
The club reportedly explored other managerial options, but Thomas Tuchel is said to be committed to the England national football team job, while Luis Enrique remains focused on his role at Paris Saint-Germain.

United will conclude their Premier League season with a home fixture against Nottingham Forest on May 17 before travelling to face Brighton & Hove Albion on the final day of the campaign on May 24. A final decision regarding the managerial position is expected shortly after the season concludes.
