EKO HOT BLOG reports that Essugo joins Chelsea following an impressive loan spell at Spanish La Liga side Las Palmas during the 2024–2025 season. The young midfielder made 27 appearances and scored once, quickly becoming a central figure in the team’s midfield setup.
A graduate of Sporting CP’s renowned academy, Essugo made headlines in 2021 when he became the youngest-ever debutant for the Lisbon club at just 16 years and six days. He later broke another record by becoming the youngest starter in the club’s history, surpassing Portuguese football legend Luis Figo.
Before his move to Spain, Essugo gained top-flight experience with Sporting’s first team, Sporting B, and had a brief loan stint at Primeira Liga side Chaves, where he featured in 14 matches.
On the international stage, Essugo has consistently represented Portugal across multiple youth levels. He most recently featured for the Portugal Under-21 national team during the March 2025 international window.

Chelsea’s acquisition of the talented midfielder reflects their continued investment in youth development and long-term squad depth under the club’s ongoing rebuild project.
