Manchester City have strongly refuted reports suggesting that striker Erling Haaland could join Real Madrid this summer, insisting that no provision exists in his contract that would facilitate such a transfer.
Eko Hot Blog gathered the speculation emerged after Enrique Riquelme, a contender in Real Madrid’s forthcoming presidential election, promised to sign Haaland and midfielder Rodri if elected.
Riquelme also claimed that the Norwegian forward’s contract included a release clause that could make the deal possible.

Responding to the reports, City dismissed the claims as inaccurate and maintained that Haaland remains fully committed to the club.
The English champions stressed that there is no contractual arrangement allowing the player to leave under the circumstances being suggested.
The club also expressed displeasure over the use of Haaland’s image in connection with the election campaign and indicated that legal options were being considered.
The rumours gained further attention after media reports in Spain alleged that Riquelme had already secured an understanding with the striker ahead of a possible takeover at the Spanish club.

However, Haaland’s representatives quickly denied the reports. His father, Alfie Haaland, and agent, Rafaela Pimenta, described the claims as unfounded and wished the candidates in the Real Madrid election well.
Although Real Madrid have long been linked with the prolific striker, Haaland recently reaffirmed his commitment to Manchester City by signing a long-term contract extension.
The agreement, signed in January 2025, keeps the 25-year-old at the Etihad Stadium until June 2034, further underlining the club’s confidence in his future role.
