President Bola Tinubu’s administration has launched a new platform allowing vehicle owners to transition from petrol to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) under a ‘convert now and pay later’ scheme.

This online portal aims to make it easier for Nigerians to convert their petrol-fueled vehicles to CNG, with the added convenience of deferring payment for conversion expenses.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that  the announcement was made by the National Orientation Agency (NOA) on Tuesday via its official X account.

According to the government, this innovative payment scheme is designed to enable drivers to initiate vehicle conversions immediately while repaying the costs in manageable monthly installments at competitive rates.

“Switching to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) is now more accessible than ever. With flexible payment plans tailored to fit your budget, transitioning from petrol to CNG has never been smoother or more affordable,” the government stated.

The portal offers an easy online application process, with quick approvals and support throughout the conversion journey, ensuring a hassle-free experience for all applicants.

As part of its Presidential CNG initiative, the Nigerian government is also expanding CNG conversion centers across the country. Over the past six months, conversion centers have been established in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, as well as in Ogun, Ekiti, Nasarawa, and several other states.

The Federal Government has set an ambitious goal of converting 1 million vehicles to CNG by the year 2027.

Officials believe that the CNG initiative could reduce road transportation costs by up to 40 percent, a timely measure as Nigerians grapple with rising fuel prices, which have surged to between ₦950.22 and ₦1,100 per liter, up from ₦770.
