The Federal High Court in Lagos has scheduled September 12 for a hearing on various applications related to the asset forfeiture case involving former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele. Justice Deinde Dipeolu announced the date after reviewing submissions from the involved parties.

During the hearing, Bilikisu Buhari-Bala, representing the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), noted that the court had issued an interim forfeiture order on August 15.

This order covered $2.045 million and multiple properties linked to Emefiele.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the EFCC had been directed to publish this order in a national newspaper to notify interested parties about the potential permanent forfeiture of the assets. Confirmation of this publication appeared in a newspaper on August 28.

Olalekan Ojo, SAN, representing Emefiele, informed the court of applications submitted to stay further proceedings on the case. Ojo requested an adjournment until September 9 to allow the court time to address these applications.

Chibuzor Opara, representing the occupants of one of the contested properties at No. 8a Adekunle Lawal Road, Ikoyi, stated that he had not yet received all relevant documents. Opara also sought an adjournment to adequately prepare for his clients’ defense.
