The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum, has pledged that the party is ready to safeguard Nigeria’s democracy, which he described as being under serious threat.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that while speaking in Bauchi on Friday, Damagum expressed concern over what he described as deliberate efforts to weaken the nation’s democratic institutions.

He reaffirmed that the PDP is fully prepared to restore stability, accountability, and good governance ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“Nigeria’s democracy is battling challenges from insecurity, poor governance, and economic hardship. The country urgently needs a political reset,” he said.
The PDP leader emphasized that as the main opposition party with broad national reach, the PDP remains committed to rebuilding public confidence in democratic institutions and defending the rights of citizens.
Damagum further revealed that arrangements for the party’s forthcoming National Convention are progressing peacefully, noting that it will mark a turning point for both the PDP and Nigeria’s political direction.

He urged Nigerians to unite behind the party in reclaiming the nation from what he termed misrule, promising renewed focus on transparency, economic recovery, and improved welfare for all citizens.
“Democracy survives only when citizens actively defend it. The PDP will continue to engage at all levels to strengthen and protect our democratic system,” he added.
