The EFCC said Haruna’s arrest followed a December 2023 petition by an unnamed person who was introduced to the suspect for a foreign exchange transaction involving N1.02 billion.
The petitioner allegedly paid the amount into Haruna’s account but never received the dollar equivalent.
“Preliminary investigation showed that Haruna, who claimed to be an airline captain, allegedly diverted the money for his personal use by buying property and vehicles which he intended to use for the start-up of his alleged airline company, Air Unity Aviation Services,” the EFCC said.
The anti-graft agency said Haruna purchased landed property worth N155,000 and N350,000, three 18-seater buses with Air Unity Aviation Services logo, and four exotic cars traced to him.
Haruna will be charged to court after investigations, the EFCC stated.
In a related development, the immediate past Kwara State governor Abdulfattah Ahmed spent a second night in EFCC custody as he is being grilled over alleged N10 billion misappropriation.
