EKO HOT BLOG reports that the court, presided over by Justice Maryann Anenih, fixed the dates on Wednesday, January 29, 2026, following an agreement between lawyers representing the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the defence on an accelerated trial timetable.
According to the schedule approved by the court, proceedings will continue on February 3 and 10, April 1 and 2, May 11, 12, 13 and 14, as well as June 9 and 10. Justice Anenih stated that the case, which commenced in 2024, is expected to be concluded within the approved period.
The judge directed both parties to strictly adhere to the hearing dates, assuring them that the court would make adequate arrangements to ensure smooth and uninterrupted proceedings.
At the resumed hearing, an EFCC witness, Emere Chinedu, told the court that the naira redesign policy was approved by the Presidency under the late former President Muhammadu Buhari. Chinedu, an operative of the commission, said the approval was communicated to the EFCC in writing after the agency made official enquiries.
He added that the approval came with a directive that the printing of the redesigned naira notes must be done within Nigeria, contradicting claims that the currency was printed outside the country during Emefiele’s tenure.
The witness further disclosed that Emefiele made six extra judicial statements before an inter agency investigative panel on October 26, 27, 30 and 31, as well as November 1 and 2, 2023.

Under cross examination, Chinedu declined to comment on claims that a former EFCC chairman suggested the naira redesign to the former president, noting that the commission lacks the authority to initiate currency design changes.
Emefiele, who is standing trial under charge number FCT HC CR 264 2024, has pleaded not guilty to all charges. The case was adjourned to February 3 for continuation of cross examination.
