As part of proactive efforts to promote environmental cleanliness and prevent flooding across communities, Eredo Local Council Development Area has issued a stern warning to residents against the indiscriminate dumping of refuse into drainage channels, canals, and waterways within the council area.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the council described the act as unlawful, dangerous, and one of the leading causes of environmental degradation, blocked drainage systems, and flooding during the rainy season.

According to the council authority, improper waste disposal continues to pose serious threats to public health and safety, as blocked drainage channels often result in stagnant water, environmental pollution, destruction of roads, and the spread of diseases within communities.
Residents were reminded that maintaining a clean environment is a shared responsibility that requires collective cooperation from individuals, households, traders, and business owners across Eredo LCDA.
The council further stressed that offenders caught dumping refuse into drainage systems would be prosecuted in line with the provisions of the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law 2017, particularly Section 373, which expressly prohibits such environmental offences.
Authorities also encouraged residents to patronize approved waste disposal operators and avoid practices capable of endangering the environment and public wellbeing.
The warning comes as the council intensifies efforts toward environmental sustainability, cleaner communities, and flood prevention measures across the LCDA.
Community stakeholders have also been urged to support government efforts by creating awareness within their neighborhoods and encouraging proper sanitation habits among residents.
The council reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property through improved environmental management and sustained sanitation advocacy across all communities in Eredo LCDA.
