Eko Hot Blog reports that Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag acknowledged his interest in signing English striker Harry Kane, but the club ultimately secured Rasmus Hojlund instead.

Harry Kane was determined to depart Tottenham Hotspur last season, with Manchester United actively pursuing his signature.

However, reports surfaced suggesting that Spurs’ owners were reluctant to sell him to the Old Trafford-based club.

Consequently, Harry Kane made a move to Bayern Munich, where he has maintained his impressive goal-scoring form.

Rasmus Hojlund, Harry Kane

He boasts 43 goals and 11 assists in 43 games for Bayern so far this season.

Because Manchester United couldn’t secure Kane’s signature, they opted for 21-year-old Danish striker Rasmus Hojlund, whom they acquired from Atalanta for €73.90 million.

Regrettably for Manchester United, Hojlund has only mustered 14 goals and 2 assists in 38 appearances across all competitions this season, a tally deemed insufficient.

United’s struggles persist across various competitions, except for the FA Cup, where they are set to face Manchester City in the final on May 25th.

Erik Ten Hag holds the belief that Hojlund isn’t currently a striker capable of netting 30-plus goals like Harry Kane.

However, he remains optimistic that the Danish striker will reach that level in the future.

Man United forward, Rasmus Hojlund

“We have had some choices made with talents like Rasmus Hojlund”, Ten Hag told Sky Sports.

“I can see a striker who already proved it, who we want to sign and we couldn’t get him. And then we went to Rasmus because he’s a talent.”

When Gary Neville asked Ten Hag whether the player he mentioned was Harry Kane, the Dutch tactician replied:

“Yes, and you know Harry Kane will get you 30 goals.

“I think Rasmus will get there, but he needs time. It’s not fair to assess him the same as Harry Kane.

I would never compare two players because they are very different.”
