A federal lawmaker representing Ikeja Federal Constituency, James Faleke, has declared support for Lagos State Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, to succeed Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in the 2027 Lagos governorship election.
Eko Hot Blog reports that Faleke made the endorsement public on Friday via a post on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account, where he appealed to members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ikeja and across Lagos State to align behind Hamzat as the party prepares for its upcoming primaries next month.

In his message, he described Hamzat as his preferred choice for the state’s top job and encouraged party loyalists to support his emergence as candidate for the next electoral cycle covering 2027 to 2035.
Meanwhile, indications within the APC suggest ongoing efforts to build consensus around possible candidates in key South-West states ahead of the general elections.
In Lagos, political discussions are reportedly tilting in favour of Hamzat as a frontrunner for the governorship ticket.

In Ogun State, attention is said to be shifting toward Senator Olamilekan Adeola, widely known as “Yayi,” while in Oyo State, Senator Sharafadeen Alli is being positioned among those considered for top leadership roles.
These alignments are believed to have followed consultations involving APC leaders from Lagos, Ogun, and Oyo States during engagements with President Bola Tinubu in Lagos in late March.
According to party insiders, the discussions formed part of broader strategic meetings aimed at shaping the party’s direction and candidate selection process ahead of 2027.

The high-level gathering reportedly included key figures such as the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila; Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele; and governors Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos, Dapo Abiodun of Ogun, and Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti, alongside other senior APC stakeholders including the Executive Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service, Zaccheaus Adedeji.
Sources familiar with the meeting say the deliberations were extensive, focusing on political balance, internal stability, and candidate acceptability across the affected states, with several names emerging as preferred options after lengthy consultations.
