The commission disclosed that the upgrade of the Abuja stadium will extend beyond the installation of VAR and anti-doping facilities.
Other approved projects include the rehabilitation of running tracks and floodlights, improvements to media and athlete sections, as well as the construction of a High Performance Centre and additional training pitches within the stadium complex.
The Federal Government also approved the redevelopment of the existing 200-room athletes’ hostel into a fully functional hotel.
Medical facilities at the stadium are equally expected to receive modern equipment as part of the ongoing modernisation efforts.
The initiative also includes the construction of a sports centre that will provide office spaces for national sports federations.
In addition, the government approved the rehabilitation of major sporting infrastructure in different parts of the country.

Plans are equally underway for the construction of mini sports centres nationwide to improve grassroots access to sporting facilities and encourage youth participation in sports.
The initiative further covers the establishment of sports facilities in selected tertiary institutions as part of efforts to strengthen school sports and develop centres of excellence across Nigeria.

“The unprecedented investments are the first phase and are designed to position sports as a driver of youth empowerment, economic growth, talent development, and national unity,” the commission stated.
