FG Suspends Senior Kirikiri Officers Over Bobrisky Prison Scandal

The Federal Government on Thursday, suspended the officers in charge of both the Maximum and Minimum Custodial Centres in Kirikiri, Lagos State.
This action followed the release of an audio clip suggesting that Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, who had been convicted and sentenced to six months in prison, was provided with accommodation outside the custodial facility.
Ja’afaru Ahmed, Secretary of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB), announced the suspensions in a statement issued in Abuja.

Ahmed explained that the officers were suspended to allow for an investigation into the allegations, and promised that the findings would be made public once the inquiry is concluded.

Bobrisky
He stated, “Following the viral video trending on social media on alleged infractions by Officers of the Nigerian Correctional Service relating to Mr. Idris Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky, the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board has suspended forthwith the following Senior Officers of the Service.
“Michael Anugwa, Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC), In-Charge of Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Kiri-kiri, Lagos State; and Sikiru Adekunle, Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC), In-Charge of Maximum-Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Kiri-kiri, Lagos State.

“Also, the Board has suspended ASC II Ogbule Samuel Obinna, serving at the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Afikpo, Ebonyi State, for allegedly accompanying a convicted inmate out of the Custodial Centre to a location outside the facility.
“Additionally, ASC II Ogbule Samuel Obinna, stationed at the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Afikpo, Ebonyi State, has been suspended for allegedly escorting a convicted inmate to an unauthorized location outside the custodial facility.
