Five-Year-Old Boy Accidentally Sets Duplex on Fire in Ilorin

- A five-year-old boy accidentally sets a five-bedroom duplex on fire in Ilorin, Kwara State.

A five-year-old boy accidentally set a five-bedroom duplex on fire in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State, on Monday evening.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that the incident occurred at Abiodun Adebiyi Close, off Yidi Road in the Irewolede area, around 5:32 pm.
According to the spokesman for the Kwara State Fire Service, Hassan Adekunle, the fire was caused when the boy was playing with matches and dropped a lit stick onto combustible material.

The fire quickly spread within one room of the duplex, but the state fire service responded swiftly to the distress call, arriving at the scene to contain the flames.
“Firefighters worked tirelessly and with technical precision to contain the blaze, preventing it from spreading to other rooms or neighboring buildings. Thanks to their expertise, only one room was affected,” Adekunle stated.

Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, praised the team’s prompt and effective response. He also urged the public to take fire safety seriously, especially advising parents to keep matches away from children, as a single matchstick could potentially destroy an entire home.
