Babatunde Osokoya, former Secretary to the Ogun State Government (SSG) and ex-Head of Service, has passed away at the age of 81 following a brief illness at a private hospital in Abeokuta.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Osokoya, a seasoned administrator from Omu-Ijebu, remained active in public life even in his later years, recently participating in events marking Ogun State’s 50th anniversary. His death has been described by Governor Dapo Abiodun as a significant loss to the state. The governor recalled Osokoya’s vibrant presence during the golden jubilee celebrations, highlighting his enduring dedication to public service.
Osokoya had a long and distinguished career in the civil service. He rose to the position of Permanent Secretary at 35 and later served as both Secretary to the State Government and Head of Service until his retirement in 1996. He also chaired the Ogun State Civil Service Commission from 2003 to 2011, overseeing reforms and mentoring the next generation of civil servants.
Beyond his official roles, Osokoya was widely respected for his commitment to youth development and sports. He played an active role in football programs that nurtured local talent and remained a strong advocate for the welfare of retired civil servants through his leadership of the state’s association of former senior officers.
Governor Abiodun extended condolences to Osokoya’s family, the civil service community, and the people of Ogun State, praying for the peaceful repose of a revered elder statesman. He praised Osokoya’s lifelong contributions to governance, mentorship, and the development of public institutions.
