The sudden escalation occurred less than 48 hours after the Israeli and Lebanese governments initially agreed to a Wednesday truce framework brokered by Washington.
Under the conditions outlined by the US State Department, the cessation of hostilities remains strictly contingent upon the complete withdrawal of all Hezbollah operatives and hardware from the territory south of the strategic Litani River.
However, the prospects for a lasting peace were quickly complicated when Hezbollah’s Secretary-General, Naim Qassem, explicitly rejected the truce parameters.
Qassem demanded a comprehensive, non-conditional ceasefire alongside the total withdrawal of Israeli military forces from all Lebanese territories.
In response to continued rocket fire from the militant group, the IDF issued urgent Arabic-language evacuation orders on social media platform X, telling residents of several villages north of the Litani River, as well as the coastal hubs of Sarafand and Saksakiyeh, to immediately move at least 1,000 meters away from their homes into open zones.

The NNA reported an immediate mass displacement of panicked civilians following the military directive, compounding a humanitarian crisis where the International Rescue Committee (IRC) estimates that 1.24 million people across Lebanon are facing acute food insecurity this year.
Despite the active combat operations on the ground, US President Donald Trump expressed strong optimism during a Thursday address, stating that notable progress had been made toward ending the regional warfare.
Trump claimed that representatives from Hezbollah reached out directly to his administration to discuss halting the conflict, and confirmed he had held subsequent discussions with both the militant group and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Concurrently, broader geopolitical tensions remain high as Trump indicated an openness to holding direct talks with Iran’s Supreme Leader to secure a comprehensive regional peace deal.
This diplomatic push comes amid mixed signals from Tehran, where the Iranian Foreign Minister noted a lack of significant progress, and a separate trade standoff over Iran’s attempts to levy service fees on shipping vessels navigating the critical Strait of Hormuz.
