Fuel Scarcity Set to End as NNPC Begins Product Dispatch from Port Harcourt Refinery

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Ltd. has fulfilled its commitment to re-stream the Port Harcourt Refining Company (PHRC), marking the start of crude oil processing and the distribution of petroleum products to the market.

This milestone was announced in a statement on Tuesday by the Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPC Ltd., Olufemi Soneye.

According to the statement, petroleum products such as Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), and Household Kerosene (HHK) are now being loaded for dispatch from the refinery. Additional products from the facility will also follow shortly.

At a ceremony to commemorate the commencement of operations at the Port Harcourt Refinery, NNPC’s Group CEO, Mele Kyari, hailed the event as a transformative achievement for Nigeria. He described it as a crucial step toward energy independence and economic growth for the nation.

Kyari extended special thanks to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his steadfast support and dedication to the refinery rehabilitation project, emphasizing the President’s commitment to achieving energy security.

He also praised the NNPC Board of Directors, staff, and contractors for their collective efforts in overcoming challenges to make the refinery operational. Additionally, Kyari expressed gratitude to Nigerians for their patience and reiterated NNPC’s commitment to restoring full functionality to the nation’s other refineries.

The Chief Executive of the Nigerian Midstream & Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Farouk Ahmed, congratulated NNPC on the milestone and pledged the agency’s continued support for completing rehabilitation works at other refineries.

The Port Harcourt Refinery rehabilitation project is an Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Installation, and Commissioning (EPCIC) initiative designed to restore the facility to optimal functionality. The project has achieved over 16 million man-hours of work without any Loss Time Injury (LTI), underscoring its commitment to safety and efficiency.
