The distributor described the achievement as a landmark moment, noting that Behind The Scenes is the first Nollywood production to cross the ₦2 billion threshold in Africa.

FilmOne stated that the milestone officially positions the movie as the highest-grossing Nollywood film of all time on the continent, while also emerging as the top-earning Nollywood release in the United Kingdom and Ireland.
The company added that the success further underlines Akindele’s dominance as the most commercially successful filmmaker in West Africa.
According to the distributor, Akindele has now become the first filmmaker to top the African box office for three consecutive years, a record it described as unmatched in the region’s film industry.
FilmOne thanked cinema audiences for their overwhelming support, describing the film’s success as both a commercial triumph and a cultural movement driven by loyalty and strong word-of-mouth.
The journey to ₦2 billion marks a steady rise for Behind The Scenes, which had earlier crossed the ₦1 billion and ₦1.77 billion milestones before continuing its upward climb. Its sustained performance has now firmly placed it above all previous Nollywood box office records.
The movie features Scarlet Gomez in the lead role, supported by an ensemble cast that includes Funke Akindele, Iyabo Ojo, Destiny Etiko, Tobi Bakre, Uche Montana, Uzor Arukwe, Ini Dima-Okojie, Mr Macaroni, Ibrahim Chatta, Kamo State and several others.

At its core, Behind The Scenes tackles the issue of black tax, highlighting the emotional and financial pressures placed on individuals expected to cater for extended family responsibilities.
The relatable theme has struck a chord with audiences, especially young adults, helping to sustain strong cinema attendance across Nigeria and beyond.
Industry watchers say the film’s extraordinary run reflects a blend of compelling storytelling, strategic marketing, strong casting and Akindele’s proven ability to deliver box office hits.
With international screenings still contributing to its revenue, Behind The Scenes is widely regarded as a defining moment in Nollywood’s evolution into a global, billion-naira film industry.
