A local source, who spoke anonymously, said the attackers, believed to be four in number, went directly to the monarch’s residence, where they opened fire, killing the ruler, his wife, and his son.

Witnesses noted that the gunmen initially blended in with residents, communicating in the local dialect to avoid raising suspicion.
“They spoke like locals, so no one suspected anything until they got to the palace and started shooting,” one eyewitness recounted.
After the initial assault, the attackers reportedly proceeded to a nearby compound, where two additional residents were killed and another person was injured.
According to residents, the entire operation lasted about 20 minutes before the gunmen fled the area.

The Chairman of Agatu Local Government Area, Melvin Ejeh, confirmed the incident, stating that five people were killed while one person sustained injuries.
He added that security operatives, including the police, have since visited the community as investigations and response efforts continue.
