EKO HOT BLOG reports that the National Agency for the Control of AIDS disclosed this in a statement on Monday, stating that preparations are in advanced stages for the introduction and rollout of Lenacapavir as pre exposure prophylaxis.
Lenacapavir is an injectable HIV prevention option administered twice yearly. Clinical trials showed it significantly reduces the risk of infection and offers near total protection against HIV.
“The Government of Nigeria (GON) is advancing preparations for the introduction and rollout of Lenacapavir (LEN) as Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP). This is part of Government’s commitment to strengthen HIV prevention and accelerate progress toward epidemic control.
“Commodities are expected in the country in March 2026,” the statement reads.
According to the agency, coordinated efforts are ongoing to ensure a structured and quality assured rollout in priority states. Nigeria is adopting a phased introduction backed by regulatory approval, system preparedness, trained personnel and community engagement strategies.
NACA confirmed that the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control has granted regulatory approval for the drug.

It added that readiness assessments have been completed in 10 states, including Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Benue, Cross River, Ebonyi, FCT, Gombe, Kano, Kwara and Lagos, to evaluate service delivery capacity.
The agency also conducted national and state level trainings for healthcare workers and developed information materials to drive awareness ahead of the rollout.
