How Nigeria Can Tackle Insecurity — Chief Of Defence Staff Proposes

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) in Nigeria, General Lucky Irabor, has emphasized the need for an “all of society” approach to curtail the various forms of insecurity in the country.
Speaking at a two-day workshop on the “Use of Broadcasting in Complementing the Military in Conflict Mitigation and Management” in Abuja on Thursday, the CDS stressed that the complex nature of the security challenges facing Nigeria requires multi-sectoral and specialized efforts from society.
Represented by Rear Admiral Tanko Pani, Director of Training, Defence Headquarters, General Irabor highlighted the fact that the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) have reviewed their strategies and policies to give prominence to the whole-of-society approach to ensure the effective attainment of military goals and national development objectives.
He stated that national security in Nigeria is a complex issue that requires a multifaceted approach from all sectors of society. Nigeria has been grappling with various forms of insecurity for the past decade, including terrorism, kidnapping, banditry, communal clashes, piracy, oil theft, drug and human trafficking, and cybercrime, among others. To curtail the security situation, an all-of-society approach is required.
According to General Irabor, the approach involves the participation of the government, security agencies, civil organizations, religious leaders, traditional leaders, the press, and the general public. Each sector of society has a critical role to play in curbing insecurity and restoring peace in the country.
The CDS also emphasized the importance of the media in complementing the efforts of the military in conflict mitigation and management.
He noted that broadcasting could be used as a tool for conflict resolution, peacebuilding, and promoting national unity.
In conclusion, General Irabor called on all sectors of society to work together to address the security challenges facing Nigeria, stressing that the AFN is committed to ensuring the safety and security of all Nigerians.
