EKO HOT BLOG reports that speaking during his acceptance speech at the PDP national convention in Ibadan on Saturday, Turaki said he fully understands the responsibility placed on him and his team by party delegates. He noted that the PDP is at a critical stage but remains confident that the new leadership is prepared for the task ahead.
He said, “The cross you have given us means that you watch us also take it to the Nigerian people, and that we shall do. We are not under any illusion that the task placed on us is a simple one. Our party is at a crossroads now, but we are up to the task; we are up to the challenge.”
Turaki, a former Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, revealed that the new National Working Committee will soon unveil its operational roadmap, which will outline the principles and strategies that will guide his administration. He added that the committee intends to begin implementation immediately.
“Very soon, we shall be rolling out what our guiding principles will be and the modus operandi for achieving them. When we do that, we shall be hitting the ground running from day one,” he said.
Turaki pledged that his leadership would be driven by dedication, discipline, and clear objectives. Reaffirming the PDP’s identity as a grassroots movement, he vowed to eradicate impunity and return the party to its foundational values.

He said, “Today, as I talk to you, the only political party that has retained its name is the Peoples Democratic Party. This has been possible because this is the party of the Nigerian people. Make no mistake about it; we are returning the party to you, the people. There will be no more impunity.”
Turaki won the chairmanship election with 1,516 votes, far ahead of his closest rival, Senator Yakubu Danmarke, who secured 275 votes. Delegates from seventeen states participated in the convention held at the Lekan Salami Stadium.
Former Anambra Central Senator and convention supervisor, Ben Obi, also announced that former Oyo State Deputy Governor, Taofeek Arapaja, emerged as the new National Secretary of the party.
