All markets in Ibadanland were shut down this morning for the burial of the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, who passed away on July 7, 2025.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the markets were closed from 5 a.m. to 12 noon on Friday, August 8, 2025, as a final mark of respect for the monarch.

This directive was issued by the Babaloja General of Oyo State, Alhaji Yekeen Abass, who said the closure was to honor the traditional ruler for his dedicated service to the country and to Ibadanland. Traders and artisans in the city remember Oba Olakulehin for his role in maintaining peace and creating a good environment for marketers.
The final burial rites for the king began on Thursday with a lying-in-state ceremony at Mapo Hall, which was attended by various important people and community leaders. A Christian wake was also held later that same evening at the Olubadan Palace.
