- Leaders seek waiver on 150-meter setback to protect 53 ancestral communities.
- Community distances itself from ADC member’s appearance at Eleko meeting.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the Ibeju-Lekki Ancestral Coastal Communities have reaffirmed their loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC), distancing themselves from any anti-party affiliations while seeking a waiver on the 150-meter setback linked to the ongoing Coastal Road project.
The position was made known during a stakeholders’ engagement led by Bale Chief Labiya Gbadebo Fatau, who clarified that the communities remain committed to the ruling party and supportive of the Federal Government’s development agenda.
The clarification followed a viral video showing Rhodes Vivor Gbadebo, identified as a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), at a community meeting in Eleko.
Community leaders explained that he was not formally invited but attended through one of his aides, stressing that his presence does not reflect the political stance of the ancestral coastal communities.
Addressing residents, Bale Eleko and other leaders reiterated their unwavering support for President Tinubu and the APC, while appreciating the President’s efforts in initiating the Coastal Road project.
They, however, appealed for a waiver on the 150-meter setback requirement, noting that the request is aimed at preserving their ancestral heritage and protecting the identity of their 53 historic coastal communities.
Bale Fatau commended the Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Chairman, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, for his continued engagement and advocacy on behalf of the affected communities.
He emphasized that the demand is not in opposition to development but a plea for balance between infrastructure expansion and cultural preservation.
Delegates from the Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Council assured residents that the chairman is working closely with relevant authorities to address the concerns raised. They expressed optimism that a constructive resolution would be reached.
The communities expressed confidence in President Tinubu’s leadership, citing his record of infrastructure development and responsiveness to citizens’ concerns.
They maintained hope that their appeal for a waiver would receive fair consideration, ensuring that development proceeds without erasing their ancestral legacy.
With a united front, the Ibeju-Lekki Ancestral Coastal Communities pledged continued support for the APC and affirmed their belief that their voices will be heard and their heritage protected for generations to come.
