Leading the exercise was the Executive Chairman, Wale Raji Anomo, who was joined by the Vice Chairman, Wasiu Dehinsilu, Leader of the House, Hassan Mustapha, as well as councillors representing various wards. Also present were the Secretary to the Local Government, supervisors, senior special assistants, Council Manager Awobajo Sunday, the Council Treasurer, members of the management team, and the NULGE Chairman.
The clean-up exercise was coordinated by the Environmental Sanitation Services Department, while enforcement and restriction of movement were carried out by operatives of the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps, Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigerian Legion, and Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI).
Speaking during an inspection tour, Chairman Anomo emphasized that the exercise aligns with the state government’s environmental sustainability policy.
“This is a directive from the state government. We must keep our environment clean to prevent cholera, malaria, and flooding, especially as we enter the rainy season,” he stated.
He commended residents for their active participation and compliance, noting that such cooperation is vital in achieving a cleaner and healthier environment.
The chairman, however, issued a stern warning to defaulters, stating that sanctions would be enforced in accordance with the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law 2017 in future exercises.
The council further announced that the environmental sanitation exercise will now hold regularly on the last Saturday of every month across the LCDA, reinforcing efforts to maintain environmental discipline and promote public health.
