The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Joash Amupitan, has cautioned the African Democratic Congress (ADC) against proceeding with its planned congresses and convention amid its ongoing leadership dispute.
Speaking during an interview on Arise News, Eko Hot Blog reports that Amupitan stated that the electoral body would not monitor any such activities, citing an existing court order.

The INEC chairman warned that even if candidates emerging from such processes win elections, the courts could nullify their victories.
He referenced past incidents in Zamfara State and Plateau State, where election outcomes were overturned, resulting in candidates with the second-highest votes being declared winners.

Amupitan’s remarks come as the faction of the ADC led by David Mark insists on going ahead with its planned political activities ahead of the 2027 elections, despite INEC’s stance.
He urged the party to respect the current legal situation and maintain the status quo until the court delivers its ruling, warning that disregarding judicial orders could have far-reaching implications.
