EKO HOT BLOG reports that as a result, the electoral body announced the resumption of the recall process, emphasizing that the necessary notifications have been issued to the senator and relevant authorities.
In a formal communication to Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, INEC confirmed that the recall petition has been received and acknowledged. The same notice has been sent to the leadership of the National Assembly and published on the commission’s website.
The statement, titled “Update on the Recall of the Senator Representing Kogi Central Senatorial District”, reads in part:
“Further to the statement issued yesterday, Tuesday, 25th March 2025, the commission hereby confirms that the contact address of representatives of the petitioners, their telephone numbers, and email addresses have now been provided in a letter addressed to the Chairman of the Commission dated today, Wednesday, 26th March 2025.”
It further explains that, in accordance with Clause 2(a) of INEC’s Regulations and Guidelines for Recall 2024, the senator has been formally notified.
INEC also stated that the next step in the recall process would be the verification of the list of signatories submitted by the petitioners. The commission will determine whether the petition is signed by more than half of the registered voters in Kogi Central, as required by law.
“This verification will be carried out in the coming days, and the outcome, which will be made public, shall determine the next step to be taken by the commission,” the statement added.
INEC reassured Nigerians that the recall process would be conducted transparently, with all procedures adhering strictly to legal provisions.
