EKO HOT BLOG reports that the former Argentina captain exits less than a year after guiding the team to its first MLS Cup title and a record breaking 2025 campaign.
“I want to let everyone know that, for personal reasons, I have decided to end my tenure as head coach of Inter Miami CF,” Mascherano said.
“First and foremost, I would like to thank the Club for the trust they placed in me, every employee who is part of the organisation for the collective effort, but especially the players, who made it possible for us to experience unforgettable moments.
“I also want to thank the fans and La Familia, because none of this would have been possible without them.
“I will always carry with me the memory of our first star, and wherever I am, I will continue to wish the Club all the best moving forward. I do not doubt that the Club will continue to achieve success in the future.
“Sending you all a big hug, and thank you for everything.”
Managing owner Jorge Mas paid tribute to the departing coach, describing his contribution as historic.
“Javier will forever be part of this Club’s history and will always hold a special place in the Inter Miami CF family. Not only for being a key part of unforgettable achievements, such as winning the MLS Cup and the team’s historic performance at the Club World Cup, but also for the example he set through his dedication and daily work leading the team,” he said.
“We respect his decision and are deeply grateful for everything he contributed, wishing him nothing but the very best in his professional and personal future.”
Mascherano’s debut season delivered silverware and records, with Inter Miami winning the MLS Cup and Eastern Conference title while scoring 101 goals across the regular season and playoffs, the highest tally in a single Major League Soccer campaign. The team also set a postseason record with 20 goals and played 58 matches across all competitions.
On the global stage, Inter Miami reached the knockout rounds of the FIFA Club World Cup, becoming the first MLS side to achieve the feat. The club also made history as the first Concacaf team to defeat European opposition in an official match and the first from the United States to record a win in the competition.
Regionally, the team reached the semi finals of the Concacaf Champions Cup and a second final in the Leagues Cup.

Mascherano departs alongside his coaching staff, who joined him in January 2024. Assistant coach Guillermo Hoyos will take charge of the team on an interim basis, while chief soccer officer Alberto Marrero will assume sporting director duties as the club begins the search for a permanent replacement.
