Eyewitnesses at the scene claimed that the occupants of the Jeep were security operatives, possibly from the DSS, who immediately fled with their rifles after the crash, leaving their vehicle behind. This action, they said, was likely out of fear of a mob attack.

However, the Anambra State Police Command has launched a full investigation into the incident. The Command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the accident but stated that a preliminary investigation shows the abandoned Lexus Jeep does not belong to any security agency in the state.
Police operatives from the Isiowulu Division quickly responded to the scene, where they secured the area, recovered the abandoned vehicle, and took the victims to a hospital. One of the victims was later confirmed dead.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has ordered a full-scale investigation and has appealed to residents to remain calm and cooperate with the police.
