The by-election for the Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency in Kaduna State on Saturday, August 16, 2025, was marked by a significantly low voter turnout.
Eko Hot Blog reports that electoral officials and security personnel were largely idle at polling units, with very few voters showing up to cast their ballots, even an hour after the polls opened.

Two voters, Mava Jesse and Samson Koro, offered different reasons for the poor participation. Jesse suggested that a lack of voter mobilization and a negative experience from previous local government elections discouraged many people from coming out.
On the other hand, Koro attributed the issue to low public awareness created by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) but held onto hope that more voters would arrive later in the day.

The election was held to fill the seat of a former lawmaker whose election was nullified by the courts. The final outcome of the by-election was dependent on whether voter participation improved throughout the day.
Despite the peaceful environment, the low turnout raised concerns about public engagement in the democratic process.
