Kano Delegates Study Traditional Medicine in Lagos
A delegation from Kano State have recently traveled to the Lagos State Traditional Medicine Board (LSTMB) for a fact-finding mission and to exchange knowledge.
To strengthen the practice of traditional medicine and encourage collaboration between states, the Kano team was received by the Lagos agency, the Registrar of LSTMB, Prince Babatunde Adele, remarked that the visit marks an important milestone in the exchange of expertise and knowledge in traditional healing practices.
Prince Adele emphasized that the cooperation between the two states is heartening, as it plays a crucial role in preserving the rich tradition of healing, contributing to the growth and progress of both regions and the nation as a whole.
Professor Salisu Ahmed, a key member of the delegation, explained that their main goal was to study the operations and procedures employed by the Lagos State Traditional Medicine Board.
He stated, “By observing firsthand the successful practices implemented in Lagos, the Kano State delegation aimed to gather insights that could be applied to further develop traditional medicine in our State and region.”

Ahmed further highlighted that during their nearly three-day stay in Lagos, the Kano delegation engaged in numerous interactive sessions, collaborative discussions with various agencies, and site visits to different centers.
These activities, he noted, have provided valuable insights that will be beneficial back in Kano.
He added that these engagements offered them a thorough understanding of the regulatory frameworks, treatment protocols, and licensing processes that guide the operations of the Lagos State Traditional Medicine Board.
In addition, the Director of Research Training and Development at LSTMB, Mr. Hakeem Bello, commented that the visit from the Kano delegation reflects a strong commitment to preserving Nigeria’s rich heritage of traditional healing.
“Through this exchange, both states aimed to pave the way for a more integrated and regulated traditional medicine sector that prioritized the well-being of its practitioners and patients,” said Bello.
