The Kano State Fire Service has confirmed three separate incidents that resulted in multiple deaths on Thursday, urging residents to stop entering wells or taking life-threatening risks during emergencies.
Eko Hot Blog reports that in a statement issued by the agency’s Public Relations Officer, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, the first tragedy occurred at Badawa Layin Day by Day in Nassarawa Local Government Area, where a fire outbreak was reported at about 11:57 am.
Firefighters from the headquarters arrived to find a house measuring approximately 25 by 20 feet already engulfed in flames, with two bedrooms severely affected.
According to the statement, a 10-year-old girl was trapped inside the building. She was rescued unconscious but later confirmed dead and handed over to her parents.
The second tragedy took place at Badume Kanawa Village in Bichi Local Government Area, where three men died inside a well.
Investigations revealed that Sa’idu Gada, 65, was working inside the well when the supporting rope snapped. His son, Sani Isyaku, 20, immediately entered the well to rescue him but also became trapped. A third man, Yakubu Abdullahi, 60, made a rescue attempt but suffered the same fate.
Firefighters pulled the three men out unconscious, but they were later confirmed dead. Their remains were handed over to DSP Kabiru Iliyasu of the Badume Police Division.

The third fatal incident occurred in Danbatta Local Government Area, where 10-year-old Hassan Iliyasu Haruna fell into a well at Layin Abba Dabo. Fire personnel from the Danbatta station responded around 6:02 pm, rescued the boy unconscious, but he also died shortly afterward.
The Director of the Fire Service, Alhaji Sani Anas, issued a stern warning to residents:
“People should stop entering wells to rescue others. This behaviour is dangerous and leads to unnecessary loss of lives.”
