Cameroonian midfielder Bryan Mbeumo was handed his debut by coach Rúben Amorim, starting alongside Bruno Fernandes in attacking midfield.
However, it was Everton who came closest early on, with Irish defender Jake O’Brien hitting the post following a dangerous set-piece, sending an early warning signal to United’s backline.

Diallo looked uncoordinated at times, with Everton frequently exploiting that area. The Toffees thought they had opened the scoring in the 14th minute through Beto, but the striker’s effort was ruled out for offside.
Despite a rocky start, United took the lead four minutes later after Mbeumo’s slick pass sent Diallo through on goal, with the Ivorian winning a penalty. Fernandes calmly slotted home from the spot to put United ahead.
Everton, however, stayed disciplined and kept probing, eventually drawing level in the 38th minute through Iliman Ndiaye, whose well-placed finish left Altay Bayındır with no chance.
At the start of the second half, Mbeumo made way for Patrick Dorgu, prompting a tactical reshuffle as Diogo Dalot moved to the right. However, the midfield continued to struggle for control, much to Amorim’s frustration.
Mason Mount restored United’s lead with a stunning turn and finish midway through the second half what seem a much-needed confidence boost for the midfielder.
However, Everton were back on level terms just six minutes later, courtesy of a comedy of errors at the back. Diallo’s attempted clearance ricocheted off Ayden Heaven and into his own net, sealing the draw.
